In the youth’s camps, the greatest volunteer contribution of every specialty takes place, so that the summer program for welcoming children (about 300 children each summer) is prepared and runs every year.
Thousands of children have already spent their youthful years at the Christian camps organized and served under the spiritual supervision of the Monks, by a multitude of volunteers, who offer their free services to society with the goal of love and contribution.
The youth’s camps, named “Transfiguration of the Savior,” were founded in 1993 by the welfare directorate of the Prefecture of Aetolia-Acarnania and operate every summer under the general supervision of the family and child directorate of the Region of Western Greece. Outdoor, organized camping activities for children and adolescents aged 9 to 16 are held every summer, with the aim of the moral and Christian upbringing of the minor campers, as well as contact and acquaintance with Greek and Orthodox tradition.
The programs are supported by dozens of volunteers and by the monastic brotherhood of monks, as they have all been trained in this specific work. Young people who have the opportunity to participate in these programs develop a more responsible character, with social sensitivity, with knowledge of and love for the tradition of their place, having received provisions from Greek culture and Orthodoxy for their lives so that they can be sent to their own families and for the rest of their lives, useful to everyone, wherever they may be.
These camps are located in the coastal area of Kosteika, of Kato Vasiliki, in the Municipality of Nafpaktia, half an hour away from Nafpaktos (2 km from the Ionia Odos, at the Gavrolimni exit). The plot was granted for this purpose by the parish of Taxiarches of Gavrolimni to the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration, exclusively for the use of children’s camps and youth activities.
