In 1977, public land was granted in Skala Nafpaktos with the signature of the then forester of Nafpaktos as well as the then community leader of Skala. On August 6 of the same year, the foundation of the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior was laid. A multitude of Christians were present to watch the Blessing and the placement of the founding marble plaque, in the shape of the Holy Cross, with the dedication: In the name of our Savior Jesus Christ. Founded on May 30, 1977.
In 1980, the relevant Presidential Decree of the founding of the monastery was published in the Government Gazette, under the Archbishop of Athens, the late Seraphim. Thus, from Nafpaktos, there was a substantial re-establishment of the life of cenobitic monasteries in Western Greece, where various Monasteries once flourished in the past, but which for entire decades had since declined and completely vanished from their active presence in the social and ecclesiastical sphere.
Today, the Holy Monastery operates based on a published internal regulation, as a self-governing body (Public Legal Entity) based on the institution of monastic self-governance and with governing bodies being the abbot, the Hegumen Council, and the plenary assembly of the monastic brotherhood.
