The monks’ library and reading room, which is still housed in the facilities of the Holy Monastery, is multi-thematic and began operating in 1980 with the first university textbooks and other books of the first six founding monks of the monastic brotherhood.
It is open to the public and researchers according to a schedule and serves as a reading room for specialized scholars and educational institutions. It was organized based on the DDC library decimal system, which is the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
Today, there are 19,000 Greek-language books, 1,200 foreign-language books, 1,500 issues of magazines-newspapers, and it is continuously enriched mainly through donations of books or other noteworthy thematic journals. Currently, 50% of the titles still need to be cataloged and digitized.
To date, this specific work has not been subsidized by any public or private entity and relies solely on the voluntary contribution of the monks and friends. After forty years of continuous operation, it is in need of renovation and remodeling of the storage areas and the reading room with modern mechanical support.
